What Causes Swelling On Joints When Diagnosed With Rheumatoid Arthritis?
I am a patient of rheumatoid arthritis since last 15 years. And was on medication . Now since last one month I have swellings on all my joints like ankles, wrists, fingers etc. my doctor has advised to take Predmet-4mg once daily. I want to know if this medicine will help to overcome my problem or will it have some bad side effects.
hello. Rheumatoid Arthritis is a very debilitating auto-immune disorder involving minor joints of wrists, elbow and feet. The swellings that you noticed on your joints are rheumatoid skin nodule which occur in almost around 30% of the cases. These are usually seen on skin covering bony prominence which are subjected to repeated mechanical stress like elbows. Predmet contains an anti-inflammatory drug called Methylprednisolone which is a corticosteroid. it helps in suppressing the nodules. As it is a steroid it has some side effects like weight gain, fluid retention, edema, increased risk of infection. please note that if a drug has side effects it does not necessarily mean you will experience them. your treating doctor would have given the medication only after out-weighing the benefits with risks. i would suggest you to continue the medication and if you experience any serious side effects which is highly unlikely, then consult your treating doctor. hope my answer helped. have a good health and thank you.
