Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband was in a car wreck I week and 3 days ago. The whole left side of his face was very swollen, especially around the eye and cheekbone. He had a cat scan and MRI, both showing no bleeding or broken bones. We put ice on it for several days, every 2 hours. Some of the swelling went down. Now, there's a lot of bad bruising and the big lump on his cheekbone is back and looks terrible. It's like a hard knot. What should we do?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of swelling on one side of the face. Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to hematoma formation and due to trauma, inflammation or viral infiltration of the nerve that can cause infection of the facial nerve that is a seventh cranial nerve and supplies muscles of face. Need not to worry. Maintain hygiene and and apply cold compresses every 4 hourly alternative with warm compresses. I would suggest you to consult ortho and maxillofacial surgeon once for proper examination and start with proper course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory medications and vitamin supplement. Take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain. Start with physiotherapy.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
