What Causes Swelling On The Elbow After An Injury?

Over a week ago I hit my elbow really hard on the edge of the car door and it is still swollen and bruised. Also there is a small dent where i hit it. On a pain scale I would rate it a 3 1/2 when I move it. Do you think it could possibly be a hairline fracture?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Pain swelling may remain for some time after trauma even without a fracture. If you can move it easily, and the swelling is reducing, the fracture is unlikely. However, a hairline fracture cannot be ruled out confidently without getting an x-ray.

If you are improving, you may watch it carefully otherwise you can get an x-ray to be sure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
