Hi,
The drug you are taking
Nifedipine which acts on calcium channels to reduce the blood pressure can cause
peripheral edema i.e swelling of your feet. It dilates your arterioles and leads to edema. Don't worry in such cases I will suggest the following to my patients which I will suggest you too.
1) Look for an alternative to Nifedipine, you can speak to your cardiologist for that.
2) Elevate your feet while laying down.
3) Take an anti-inflammatory drug containing trypsin,
chymotrypsin which helps to bring down the inflammation.
4) A
diuretic can help but we should first evaluate whether the edema is due to Nifedipine or due to water retention due to other causes.
5) Avoid excess salt in the food.
Follow the above approaches it will help you out with it.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
