What Causes Swelling On The Jugular Notch Area?

hi, this is actually a concern to my mom. it was already three months since we observed a swelling or puffing on her jugular notch whenever she speaks. i try comparing it to another person but i think it s not normal because its bigger, it s not painful. doctors that she consulted from doesnt know about it. they said that if they require a biopsy for her, it wont be easy for them with regards to the size. it s very small.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, she may need a review by a vascular surgeon and get ultrasound Doppler of neck vessels including both carotids and jugulars for any impending clot. MRA and MRV may not be needed at the moment.

ESR, ANA and inflammatory markers to rule out any signs of systemic vasculitis should be done to rule out any autoimmune causes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
