What Causes Swelling On The Middle Finger?

for the 2nd time in a little over 2 weeks, my left middle finger has quickly swollen on the underside after I have touched either my dog or something else... I am not sure... a couple of weeks ago I may have pet my dog and then I thought I might have gotten stung by a bee, as my finger swelled up, turned purple and was hot to the touch... then when t he swelling went down, it turned blue, then red. Not real painful, just swollen on the underside of my finger between the nuckle and the joint closest to the tip of my finger. No joint pain, just swollen. Just weird because this has happened now 2 times in the exact spot... I think right after I touched my dog, or maybe that is just a coincidence. She is an outside dog, and is in the woods a lot, so she could have had anything on her... but I am somewhat concerned... a bit

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Welcome to health care magic

If the swelling on your finger is not painful,it may be because of allergic reaction to some insect bite.

If the swelling is painful,it may be finger space infection that needs antibiotics for treatment.

If I were your treating doctor,I would recommend,
-Antihistaminics like tab cetrizine or loratidine once a day for 3-5 days.
-Applying cold compress for 15-30 minutes 3-4 times a day over the swollen area decreases swelling.
Hope this information helps.
Feel free to ask if you have any more doubts.
