What Causes Swelling On The Tongue After Taking Haldol?
My son is 38 years old. He has been diagnosed with Bi-polar and Szephrinia( missed spelled). He recently was prescribed Haldol without Cogentin and had a major reaction. His tongue swelled to the point he couldn t speak. I had to rush him to E.R. The doctor has changed his medication to Perphenazine (4 mg) twice a day. Should I be concerned about this drug?
It.looks.like swelling of tongue after taking any specific medication is due to Allergic reaction to the drug causing Allergic Angioedema of tongue.. If the medication is changed now you need not to worry as it is not necessary that other drug will also cause allergy symptoms.. But it is advisable to keep a note of medication that you are allergic to so that you can also tell a Doctor in your medical history.. Also keep a watch while taking the new medication also to avoid any complications of it cause allergy too..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
