What Causes Swelling On The Tongue?

Several days ago, I was working outside in dusty conditions, sweeping pine needles up to burn. After a few hrs. I quit. The next day my tongue swelled up, and I went to the store and bought some over-the-counter antihistamine. I took two and the swelling disapeared in a few hrs. A few days later, the same thing happened all over again. A few days later, my uppper lip swelled up and I tool a couple antihistamine. The swelling is not going down. My breathing is not compromised.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Your symptoms are clearly indicative of Allergic reaction as swelling of tongue and lips without any other symptoms is a clear indication of Allergic reaction..
You seems to suffer from Allergic Angioedema of lips and tongue..
As the symptoms are recurring taking only anti allergics can not relieve you permanently..
You should consult an Emergency room or Allergist and get evaluated.
An allergic test can be done to rule out the exact cause of the allergy..
As it will be ruled out, avoiding exposure to the same will help in preventing the allergy symptoms..
If at all you still get exposed and symptoms recur then anti allergic medication should be taken and also discuss about Immunotherapy to your Physician..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
