What Causes Swelling Or Redness Of The Meatus For A 19-year-old Male?

Hello i am i 19 year old male. Is there anything you can tell me about swelling or redness of the meatus. If it is anything serious? A couple of weeks ago i noticed it was becoming very painful and difficult for me to urinate, especially getting the last drops out. i mostly felt the pain at the end of my stream. I also felt the need to urinate very often. At it s worst point it felt like burning and irritating, and when i managed to urinate again there was a few drops of blood in the urine. It was also somewhat cloudy. But only at the end of the stream. This occurred once before i decided to get checked at a doctor. I had been on a course of different antibiotics and the painful urination has all but completely receeded. No blood either. I was not told yet what it couldve been. Could it have been an STD of some sorts or just a UTI? My last sexual activity was about 2 months ago. i have had no warts or blisters on my penis throughout all this. But lately since all that, i noticed redness on my meatus and swelling of my meatus after having an erection for a while. No masturbation, only erection. The swelling receeds within an hour or so but remains slightly red and swells once again after being erect. There is no pain, burning or itching when it is swollen, it can be touched comfortably. Could you tell me what this means or how long it might take to change?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* Possible issue with balanitis, developing paraphimosis or excess foreskin with phimosis (partial or complete) causing smegma collection underneath the foreskin and secondary bacterial or fungal infection with swelling and redness.

* Check out with your consultant surgeon for presence of phimosis, paraphimosis or other surgical issues.

Depending upon the reason, he or she will guide you in accordance to that.

As many times, medications and supportive care cure the instance and some cases do require surgery of circumcision as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
