What Causes Swelling, Redness And Irritation In Throat While Suffering From Tonsillitis?

I contracted tonsillitis 5 days ago while visiting India for work. I had a e day course of azithromycin which I took. My tonsils swelled up, one side worse than the other and had while spots on them. I am having pain and difficulty swallowing. Had fever and night sweats the first three days but that is gone now. as of yesterday the swelling of the tonsils started going down but now I have a lot of swelling in my gum by the back of my mouth on the side with the worst swollen tonsil. It is very red and irritated. Is this part of the healing process or is it a sign of a new infection? If so should I seek medical attention? Maybe start a new round of antibiotics? Please advise. Thank you!

I believe you have Upper respiratory Tract Infection along with Gingivitis
which needs further course of antibiotics.
Sometimes one requires 8-10 days course of Antibiotics.
You can change the group of Antibiotic eg. can now take
cefuroxime 250 bd for 8 days.
Local gargles of Chlorhexidine will help too.
