What Causes Swelling, Redness, Itching And Pain In The Foot?

Hi, I am writing on behalf of my mother who is in good health. She is 75. Recently,her left foot is swollen, red, itching, and causing pain. Strangely enough, the area that all this is occurring is on top of the foot. It started in the area (joints) where one would flex the foot when walking and has processed down the front of the foot. (Sorry, I do not have the medical vocabulary to describe this better.) Any advice? Lorraine Pipkin

it can be fungal infection, trauma or thromboflebitis. get examined by surgeon for examination and advise on treatment. give rest to the part. symptomatic treatment can be started.
