What Causes Swelling, Tightness And Itching In Thigh And Ankle?
I was stung twice by a bee two days ago - once on the thigh and once on the ankle. My concern is that there is still significant swelling in places other than where I was stung. My skin is tight, warm and very itchy. Should I be concerned about cellulitis?
You had bee bite you in the ankle & thigh, look very closely & remove any stinger left in the skin as it will trigger inflammation, swelling & pain.
Wash the area with soap & water thoroughly or wash it with vinegar. Apply cold pack for relieve for sometime & then put ointment hydrocortisone in the area affected to reduce redness, itching & swelling.
Take Acetaminophen, one sos after food for relieve. You can take antihistamine for faster relieve.
Symptoms of bee bites generally go away within 48 hours but if they affect the lymph node, it may take a longer time to subside.
To prevent cellulitis you can take a course of Amoxicillin and clavulanate (Augmentin). But before that get clinically examined by a GP.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K
