What Causes Swelling Under The Eyes After A Head Injury?

My husband got hit with a steel pipe at work on the left side of his head and face yesterday. Cut his face from his corner of his left eyebrow down about 4-5 inches. Had a goose egg on the left side top of his forehead. Went to dr and got him glued back together...not stitched due to location. Now his left eye is starting to swell underneath it and turned blue...

Hi, left eye swelling is due to black eye due to head injury.
Mostly it subsides on its own with ice packs and anti inflammatory drugs within 1- 2 weeks.
