What Causes Swelling Under The Left Eye While Suffering From Tooth Infection?

I'm experiencing swelling under my left eye which I think is due to an infection in a tooth in the upper front left on the mouth. I just awoke and the swelling is quite noticeable. I am taking 20 mg of Xarelto daily to thin my blood. Should I drive to an ER? Or can I wait until normal business hours? I am a 71 year old male in otherwise pretty good shape recently diagnosed with DVT.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain if you have swelling under the eye it can be probably due to dental abscess formation due to infection in your upper front tooth..

As the infection proceeds below the Root tips there can be pus formation and pus accumulation in the soft tissues causes swelling..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and he can do an x-ray ofthe tooth to rule out the cause..

In case if it is due to decayed tooth and tooth is in condition to be saved then Root Canal Treatment of tooth followed by antibiotics and painkillers can help.

You can wait for consulting a Dentist rather than going to emergency room as they will however be sending you to dentist only..

Also tell about the medication for blood thinning that you are taking as it could be advised to be stopped for a week in case if extraction is advised..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
