Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
The last 2 mornings I have woken up with swelling under my tongue which subsided as the day went on. Yesterday I also had some tenderness under my jaw which also went away by the end of the day. I did see my dentist who could not feel or see anything abnormal. Today I had less swelling under the tongue but more swelling on right side of neck under jaw with tenderness. I do use a cpap machine for the last couple months without problems. Thanks jenniestrauch @gmail.com
Swelling under the tongue along with swollen and tender area under the jawline can be due to infection in the submandibular salivary gland.. If the swelling comes and goes then it can be most probably due to salivary stone formation which can cause obstruction in the duct of the salivary gland. It causes saliva pooling in the gland causing swelling. You should consult a Dentist and get evaluated and a cross sectional x ray can help in diagnosis.. If there is infection in the gland then you can be advised antibiotics and anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen for relief.. Doing cool compresses over the swelling can help.. In case of obstruction in the duct of the gland then it has to be either manually or surgically removed.
Hope you get well soon..
Thanks and Regards.
