What Causes Swelling Under Tongue, White Patch And Tightness?
I have a bit of swelling under my tongue... the part that connects my tongue to the bottom of my mouth is white and feels tight (hurts a bit) when I extend my tongue to the roof of my mouth.. one of the swells is also turning a bit white at the folds.....? Not sure what it could be, it s just uncomfortable, definitely sensitive... im thinking maybe i burnt myself eating?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Burning of mucosa of frenulum (the skin fold that connects tongue to floor of mouth) with hot food stuffs or hot fluids can occur. Burning of oral mucosa can lead to pain sensation while moving the tongue or while eating. However, since the area has become white in color, it is important to clinically observe the white colored lesion of the frenulum for leukoplakia. Leukoplakia is the name given to any white colored patch in oral mucosa. These white lesions can be simple hyperplasia of mucosa or can be dysplastic or even malignant. Although it is a less common possibility but still it is good to rule out such a possibility. thus, consult an ENT specialist for clinical assessment and thus management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
