What Causes Swollen Abdomen While Having Chronic Hepatitis-B?

My husband was diagnosed 3 months ago with chronic hepatitis B and liver not functioning properly. The doctor prescribed Viread and 2 fluid pills daily because of legs and feet swelling. Now his stomach is severely swollen. Should he be concerned or could it be the meds or bigger problem with liver?

Hello.My name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi.Your husband problem is that the liver is not functioning normally due to the hepatitis.This causes symptoms such as swollen abdomen.This is caused by a fluid and is called ascites. Ascites causes the abdomen to become distended or enlarged.The treatment is to cure the liver and take drugs like spironolactone 25 mg twice a day that is used to treat fluid retention on the body.
