Hi. I woke up yestersay morning and my under eyelid was swollen and black. today it became worst but i dont know what the cause is. i haven t been in any fights or haven t done any thing different.. i kind of feel embarrased to walk in public with my face looking like a sleepy Tom (from tom and Jerry) do you know what the cause might be or/and what i can do to fix my face...?
In absence of injury to eye, the possibility of swollen and black eye may be indicative of internal bleeding from bleeding diathesis as that of platelet disorder or other coagulopathy. In my clinic, after thorough clinical examination, I do suggest basic lab tests involving coagulation profile for further diagnostic approach. Primary relief with ice application is best advised at this point of time.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
