What Causes Swollen And Painful Bumps On The Skin?

I have been getting random swollen spots that are painful and hot - a couple of them have felt like muscle cramps or knots. They are as large as 4 diameter. If I take allergy medication or aspirin, they go away by the next day. New ones appear in different spots. I ve had them on my thigh, stomach, back of neck, hand, arm, elbow

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Painful bumps on the skin are commonly due to allergy. Stay away from dust, pollen, smoke or plants to which your skin is sensitive.

Other medical conditions causing it can be Erythema Nodosum or Herpes simplex affecting the skin.

You are suggested to take care of your hygiene, do not share your clothes & bedding with anyone.

Take non-sedating antihistamines. You may need antibiotics & antivirals. You are suggested to visit a dermatologist & get physically examined & assessed. Get treated at the earliest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
