What Causes Swollen And Painful Perineum And Labia Majora?
Swollen painful perineum and labia majora. Hi I have a swollen labia majora which has come and gone from time to time. I had it swabbed and it came back negative but no diagnosis as to why this is happening. It s painful and swollen but not itchy or burning, just swollen and tender. It s not near the opening but further up the lip in the middle. The perineum is the same and that just happened, my lip has been swollen for a week. What it this?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Recurrent swelling of labia with a negative swab rules out the possibility of infection. Recurrent swelling and tenderness of labia could be due to allergy. Is there any change of fabric of the undergarments or use of new sanitary napkins or tampons? This could be one of the cause of allergy and thus inflammation. Anti-histaminic drug is effective in controlling the inflammation caused by allergy. You will need to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment and prescription of drug.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
