What Causes Swollen And Red Lips In A Toddler Suffering With Pneumonia?
A 2 yr old who had dbl pneumonia 2 week ago Continues to worsen. Voided only this am. Lips red and swollen. Jugular vein pulsating. Some abdominal breathing. No other visible retractions. T max today 104. Should he be seen at urgent care or a pediatric ED
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swollen and red lips in a toddler suffering with pneumonia , which is commonly due to causes like an ingrown hair, hair follicle infection , allergic reaction like angiodema or Folliculitis. But in your case the symptoms can also occur due to side effects of medicine you are taking for treating pneumonia. I would suggest you to apply a combination of Steroid and antibiotic ointment over it. Do cool compresses over it. In case if it does not resolve consult a peditrician and get evaluated and in case of ingrown hairs he can put an incision and remove the hair. In case of Folliculitis Oral antibiotics along with continuing topical application can help. Doctor may alter the does of medicine or prescribe substitute .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
