My husband has been having heal pain now his ankle looks like a baseball? what can this be? YYYY@YYYY He went to the foot Dr. And recieved a cortizone shot which did not work. he was told its planter faciitis?now his ankle looks like a baseball. Im very concerned we are icing and heat. Thank you.
Plantar fasciitis is a condition where there is inflammation of tissue in the foot called the plantar fascia. It is the most common cause of heel pain so it is possible that it is the cause of his pain and swelling.
He may need imaging of the ankle and foot to look for other causes such as arthritis.
Treatment of plantar fasciitis normally involves: (1)daily icing thoughout the day (2)stretching exercises of plantar fasciitis which are available online (3)NSAIDs- meds such as naproxen, ibuprofen or voltaren (4)strapping and taping (5)over the counter orthotics
This is tried for 6 weeks then if there is no improvement, then a splint should be used at night. If there is no improvement then referral to ankle and foot specialist may be needed.
I hope this helps
