Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swollen Ankles And Frequent Bowel Movement?
I have had to use the bathroom after every meal, last week my ankles where very swollen, I feel shortness of breathe, and my body has cramps. I went to the doctors and I was given fluid pills and an appointment for a GI a month from now. I am worried about my heart, should I be?
I understand your concern and would explain that your symptoms could be related to a kidney problem, considering the fact that you use the bathroom very frequently.
Anyway, you should also know that increased fluid retention (leg swelling) could be also related to the heart.
For this reason, I would recommend performing some tests to investigate the possible underlying issues:
- a chest X-ray study
- a cardiac ultrasound
- complete blood count, PCR, ESR for inflammation
- kidney and liver function tests
- blood electrolytes.
You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka,
Cardiologist
