What Causes Swollen Ankles Despite Taking Prednisone?
I am trying to assist my stepson who is 49 years olc, he just started experiencing swelling of the ankles, and was taking prednisone to eliminate the swelling, but is now getting progressively worse and had a 105 degree temperature last night. He did go to hospital and they did some test, won t know until Monday what is going on. He is normally a very healthy guy.
Sudden onset of swollen ankles should be investigated.Liver function test and renal function test should be done.Alcohol consumption if any should be stopped.
Any other symptoms such as breathlessness, palpitation, facial puffiness, reduced urine output should be investigated.Leg elevation can reduce the swelling.Soft tissue swelling may be treated with steroids.Edema or fluid collection needs to be treated with diuretics.
Kindly rule out diabetes and hypertension. If present, adequate control is essential.
Hope that was helpful.Let me know if i can assist you further.
