Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My brother is 75 years old and never needed medication before as he s so healthy, however due to stress he has a minor heart problem. His doctor has put him on 150mg of Pradaxa twice a day. His ankles are swelling huge which has never happened before. Should he be taking such a large dose ? Thank you.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swollen ankles while on Pradaxa. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like gout , acute kidney failure or arthritis , but in your case the symptoms are probably due to Pradaxa as its side effects . I would suggest you to consult doctor who prescribe this medicine and discuss the condition with him . Doctor may alter the dose or prescribe substitute . Doctor may also refer you to orthopedic surgeon for other problems . For now lower your salt consumption and keep your foot elevated while lying down .
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
