I have never seen my son's epiglottis before but tonight he said his pop tart felt hot when he swallowed it (it had not been heated) and when I checked his throat I suddenly saw his epiglottis. Does this mean it is inflammed? Does he need to go to the ER?
Epiglottis can be seen in many people and is a normal phenomenon. however if he has fever , pain while swallowing or neck swellings , then it is advisable to get your son checked up by a doctor. he may need antibiotics for the infection.
Thanks
