Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been having feet issues for about a year. Sometimes swelling Today was on my feet a lot and both feet just hurt even on the top I can hardly wear shoes. Sometimes can hardly scrunch my toes like the muscles won t work. Yes I am a diabetic. I don t take insulin
Swelling of both the feet can occur due to variety of causes. In case of uncontrolled diabetes, high levels of glucose can cause damage to blood vessels causing diminished blood circulation and collection of fluid causing edema. Diabetics are more prone for infections. Infection can occur in blood leading to a condition called cellulitis which can present with swelling and redness of feet. Swelling will be warm to touch. Fever can also be present.Antibiotics is a must in these cases.
I would suggest you to immediately check your blood sugar levels before and one and a half hour after food. High blood sugar should be controlled. Elevate your limbs for 5 to 10 minutes. This will reduce the swelling. Reduce intake of salt.Frequently check your feet for ulcers or any trauma. Consider intake of vitamin B12 supplements since diabetics suffer from B12 deficiency.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
