What Causes Swollen Fingers On Hands?

For the past 4 week my fingers on both hands have been swollen in the morning when I wake up. They are painful throughout the day and sometimes the fingertips are like needles being stuck into them. I cannot make a fist or do many things because of the pain. one morning I woke up and my left hand was numb. What is causing this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for the concern. You have swollen fingers with needle pricking like sensations and cannot able to make fist and do your work. It might be carpel tunnel syndrome. In this syndrome your median nerve got compressed which causes such symptoms. For this you can take hot fomentation and pain killers also you can take combination of methylcobalamine and gabapentin once daily for atleast 30 days which will give you symptomatic relief.
But still if this doesn't get relieved than you have to go through small surgical procedure of ligament release and it will get relieved. So immediately consult your orthopaedic surgeon and start treatment accordingly. Hope you might get help. Take care
