Hello,

Your nose bleed is not related to surgery. Swollen foot may be due to the inflammation and tissue reaction post surgery. Common causes of nose bleed are nose picking, blowing the nose very hard, stuffiness of nose caused by cold or flu, sinusitis, rise in environmental temperature and dry air, hay fever and other allergies, excessive use of nasal decongestants, blow to your head, trauma to nose bone, blood clotting disorder, tumor in the nasal cavity, drugs that cause nose bleed more easily like aspirin and high blood pressure or hypertension.

Instructions to control nose bleed are sit down and firmly pinch the soft part of your nose, just above your nostrils, for at least 10-15 minutes, lean forward and breathe through your mouth – this will drain blood into your nose instead of down the back of your throat, place an ice pack or bag of frozen vegetables covered by a towel on the bridge of your nose.

Stay upright, rather than lying down, as this reduces the blood pressure in the blood vessels of your nose and will discourage further bleeding. The swelling in the foot is most likely due to surgery. It will get down in 3-4 weeks.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
