Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swollen Foot And Tingling Sensation In Toes Post Ankle Sprain?
I sprained my ankle 3 days ago. I visited the ER last night and was sent home in a boot, pain meds, and instructions to ice/ elevate. The ER doc told me i have torn the tibia tendon ( something like that) to wear the boot for 1 week and use crutches. My question is why is my foot swelling more, tingling and numbness in all toes expect my big toe and they are cold? Should i go back?
I will suggest you to go back to emergency and request the doctor to look for any fractures and peripheral blood flow. Swelling can cause compression on your nerves and blood vessels making selected are in your foot numb and cold. The cause of this swelling can either be injury in itself or a fracture. This situation is called compartmentalization and it needs immediate attention.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Muhammad Faisal Bacha, Internal Medicine Specialist
