Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
After I drink coffee I notice my fingers/hands swell slightly, (my wedding ring becomes quite tight) but then after about an hour or so they return to normal. I have stage 1 hypertension approx. 135/92, What are some of the factors which add to or might cause my hands to swell? Thank you
Hello , Welcome to healthcaremagic.com and thank you for sharing your concern with us . As you already know that swelling is only seen after use of coffee so it's probably a normal temporary body response to caffeine consumption . Water retention can be seen in few people who are allergic to coffee by mechanism of increased permeability which returns back to normal as the caffeine is eliminated from body . So I think there is nothing to worry about it much . I would suggest you control your blood pressure with lifestyle modifications high includes regular exercise and good healthy diet with proper sleeping and regular use of prescribed medicines , if any . With this you should get checked your kidney functional test done , just for precaution and to rule out any kidney related issue . Best Regards, DR.S.TOMAR
