What Causes Swollen Joints After Taking Atorvastatin?
I started atorvastatin 2months ago and the joints in my first knuckle on both hands and the joints in my shoulders became swollen and hurting terribly. I stop the melds and my shoulders are doing great my fingers feel better but not well yet but on the mend. I saw the PA at my doctors office today and she said the Medes had nothing to do with my joints. I know it did!!!!! Does this med cause joint pain?
Hi & Welcome. Swollen painful joints are unlikely to be due to Atorvasatin.
The most common side effects of Atorvastatin include myopathy (muscle pain, weakness, or tenderness), stomach upset and inflammation of the liver.
Based on the history given you seem to be having inflammatory types of arthritis which needs to be properly evaluated and certain lab tests like CBC, ESR, C reactive protein, Rheumatoid factor, ASO titre, Anti-nuclear antibodies, etc to be done to find out the cause of inflammation.
Hope this will help.
