Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just started Losartan htc about 3 weeks ago. I just started having knee swelling in both knees and stiffness from the swelling. can losartan be a cause of this? I cannot remember doing anything to my knees to cause this. Also I am really tired more now. I suppose this may be normal but I dont like it. I am more worried with the knee problems than anything. I also started Ashwaganda about a month ago. Could this be my knee problem??
Losartan HTC is an anti-hypertensive combination pill containing losartan (angiotensin II receptor antagonist) and HTC (diuretic). Unfortunately, its use carries side effects like joint pain and swelling. In rare cases, rhambdomyolysis from the destruction of muscles in the body can occur especially if you are also having dark urine.
Weakness and tiredness is due to HTC as this is a diuretic and loss of body fluids and electrolytes can happen.
I advise to report these side effects to the doctor who prescribed this medication to you in order to change therapy.
Taking Ashwaganda will help regain strength, won't affect the use of other meds.
Hope this helps.
