General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.
I appreciate your concern for the swollen face and the legs after taking Omnacortil.

Omnacortil is a corticosteroid which is mainly reserved for the acute flare up of ulcerative colitis & it should be taken as a short course for about 5-7 days to prevent its side effects.

Swollen face and limbs appear to be due to accumulation of fluid in body (edema) resulting in weight gain.
Other possible side effects include infections, increased blood glucose, weakening of bones (osteoporosis), high BP hypertension, delayed healing of the wounds, cataract.

So, in view of a number of major side effects on long term use, Omnicotil should be used as a short burst followed by gradual reduction of the dosage to prevent adrenal crisis.

Hope to have answered your query.
