What Causes Swollen Legs And Bad Smelling Pus To Ooze Out From Legs If Not Diabetic?
Good Afternoon Doctor, Both of my mother s legs are swollen beyond normal now. They are not just swollen, they are changing shape now. There is pus flowing out of her legs, both of them. They smell is unbearable. It also pains here. She is about 45 years old and she is not diabetic. This has been for about 2 years now. She refuses to go to the doctor and that is why I am seeking your help. I would be most grateful if you can tell me what could be doing this and what should I do? It s worse then I ve told you in reality and I cannot explain you properply. I would be very very grateful to you for your feedback. With Regards, Okasha.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Swelling of legs and pus discharge suggests infection of the tissues of legs. There can be infection os soft tissues or bony tissues. Infection of soft tissues is called cellulitis and infection of bone is called osteomyelitis. This is an emergent condition since the infection can spread to other parts of body producing septicemia which can be fatal. Injury to the lower limb followed by infection can be the cause of this condition.
Consult a doctor as soon as possible for clinical assessment and prescription of antibiotics.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
