What Causes Swollen Lips And Chest Pain After Taking Pantoprazole?

I just had my wisdom teeth out a week ago. Immediately I got infections in the extraction sights. They put me on clindamycin, amoxacillin, ibuprofen, hydracod and chlorhexglue. I was already taking pantoprazole. When I woke up this morning I had large itching bumpson my body. Some are red others are not. I've had more appear throughout the day. My lip is swollen now. Also I'm having major chest pains.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. As per your complain, it seems that the symptoms you are experiencing of itching, hives and swollen lips are due to allergic reaction to the medications that you are advised for infection. Common causative medication can be antibiotic Amoxicillin. You should immediately consult an Emergency Room or your treating dentist and get evaluated.

Stop taking the medicines till the allergy causing medicine is ruled out and eliminated from the course. You can be advised anti allergics like Levocetrizine or Allegra and also Steroid to relieve the symptoms. Injectable anti-allergics and steroids can be given for faster relief. Along with it apply calamine lotion to soothe the skin and do cool compresses over the itchy bump.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
