What Causes Swollen Lips Despite Taking Benadryl?

I am experiencing a swollen top and bottom lip, mostly top. I have a tingling sensation. I took Benadryl 3 hours ago and still have swelling and tingling. It began Saturday mid-day when my lips began to be itchy, then have been swollen and red every since Sunday morning. Is this something that will subside within a couple of days or should I see a doctor?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain the symptoms of swollen lips which started with tingling and itching with redness and swelling seems to be most probably due to allergic reaction caused due to conditions like bug bite, allergy to any food or medication etc..
It is therefore leading to Allergic Angioedema of the lips along with inflammation..
Nothing to worry as it will be resolved soon, although can take about a week to resolve completely..
You should take anti-allergic medicines /anti-histamines like Diphenhydramine [benadryl or fexofenadine[allegra] or levocetrizine for faster resolution of the swelling.
Take anti-inflammatory painkiller medicine like Diclofenac potassium or Ibuprofen.
Do cold compresses over the lip.
Apply calamine lotion to relieve irritation.
Do not apply pressure, suck or bite the lip..
Drink plenty of water..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
