What Causes Swollen Lips With Yellow Crust Formation With Pus

Hi Doctor, my girlfriend has developed swollen lips upper and lower, yellow crust formation with puss... She has been given antibiotics..allergic medicine.. At first we believed it was some sort of cold sore, but this thing came out of no where with these symptoms.. Itchy burning sensation and swelling.. Then the yellow puss formed the crusty material on the surface of the lips.. And now this has been in this form for two weeks.. The swelling started two days ago. Could you help me on identifying the issue and possibly a way to address it?

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have symptoms of swollen lips with yellow crust formation with pus is because of allergic reaction of lower lip which leads to formation of angioedema. Lower lip biting leads to pus accumulation in it and gives it feel like chelitis glandularis. I would suggest you to visit allergy specialist for this. You can go for oral medicine specialist as well. Take antihistamine, anti-allergy and anti-inflammatory drugs combination. Drink plenty of water. Maintain proper oral hygiene. Apply topical anti- inflammatory cream on lips to prevent further accumulation of pus. Keep lips rehydrated.
