Hello and welcome to HCM, Swelling behind the ears can be due to lymph node enlargement or soft tissue swelling. Itching in the region could be due to local skin condition. A clinical assessment is required to assess the condition of the skin in the region. Besides the swelling also needs to be assessed. An aspiration cytology and imaging of the swelling is required. In aspiration cytology, cells are aspirated using a needle, spread on a slide and stained with appropriate stain. The cells are studied under microscope to assess the origin and nature of the lesion. Management can be planned after diagnosis is made.
