What Causes Swollen Lymph Node On Left Side Of Neck?

I'm 66 yrs old and weight 160 lbs. I eat healthy and take a lot of vitamins to keep my best. Mostly eat vegetables and fruits, chicken and fish for protein. 7 days ago I developed a swollen midjugular lymph node the size of a quarter on the left side of my neck. It is hard and is a little uncomfortable when I touch it or turn my neck 90 degrees. What do I do or how long should I wait before going to a Dr. for analyzes. Thank you for your support and advice.

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern....
Swollen or tender ( painful) lymph nodes are a common problem. Especially lymph nodes below jaw ( sub-mandibular lymph nodes) & lymph nodes in neck get swollen & tender in response to some infection in the area to which they drain.
Common cause of swollen lymph node on left side of neck are sore throat, tonsillitis, dental infections, throat infections etc. You may have some symptom of infection on left side of your head & neck. Treatment of the infection causing the swollen lymph node will treat the lymph node too.
If a lymph node is swollen or tender without an obvious cause then, you should consult a doctor as this may be symptom of a big problem such as cancer.

Refer to a physician
Hope this information helps
