What Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes In Neck After Taking Augmentin?

My eight year old daughter is on her fourth day of Augmenten for some unidentified infection that is causing two very large reactive lymph nodes in her neck and has been running high grade fevers for four days as well. Why is the medication not seeming to work at this point?

Hi,

Augmentin contains both amoxicillin and clavulanic acid which is a prescription antibiotic medication is used to treat a wide variety of medical conditions caused by bacterial infections like pneumonia and other respiratory tract infections, ear infections, skin and soft tissue infections, sinus infections, urinary tract infections and many more. Augmentin may cause rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes and abnormal blood test results including increased white blood cells like eosinophilia and elevated liver enzymes which is collectively known as drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS).

Again, Augmentin can cause painful swollen lymph nodes as its side effects. The pain and redness of lymph nodes will get better over the next 7-10 days after developing. Swelling may take several months to completely go out. Sometimes an abscess forms inside the lymph node and lymph node becomes larger. If these side effects persist for long, then your daughter's doctor should be informed promptly for medical help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
