What Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes In Neck While Suffering From Stomach Flu?

Hello, I have had the stomach flu for three days which has been significant diarrhea. I am now getting swollen lymph nodes in my neck and my jaw is getting sore. At what point should I see a physician. It is Sunday night so it would be an ER visit.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

In many cases of flu, the lymph nodes, particularly on the sides of neck & below jaw become swollen in response to infection. These start to shrink to become normal, after the resolution of infection. However, it may take 2-4 weeks for the lymph nodes for coming to normal level and in some cases some lymph node may take a very long time to shrink to normal size. Usually it is not a matter of concern. However, you are advised to see your doctor, if the swelling does not go after 4 weeks, lymph node is hard or more than 1.5 cm. in diameter.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
