Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes In The Arm After Taking Lupron Injection?
Yes, I was given a 3-month shot/dose of Lupron about 6 months ago. I noticed early on that the lymph nodes in my arm pits would swell and then get smaller again. By now I would have expected the shot to have worn off, but I have somewhat enlarged breasts and I can always feel the lymph nodes in my armpits and I have some swelling in the pubic bone area. I am 52 and have prostate cancer, not very advanced and will be going for proton therapy next month. Could you confirm that Lupron could be the culprit even though it was a one-time 3-month shot. The list of side-effects on this page mention enlarged breasts and lymphnodes.
Thank you for consulting. Swollen lymph nodes is due to lypmhadenitis, Inflammation of lymph nodes. I jectoin can cause this due to reactive changes in the lymphatic system. To confirm may need FNA gir cytology of the swollen lymph node or a biopsy for histology, and blood works like full hemogram. It is important to confirm either bacterial or viral infection.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
