Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had an exam today for a medical marijuana card. The examining doctor told me that what I d thought was a swollen lymph node was in fact a swollen saliva gland in my lower jaw. It is accompanied by soreness and tingling in my neck, the side of my tongue, and my ear. Sharp flavors and carbonation exacerbate it, and I ve been symptomatic for at least 3 weeks. Clindamycin has had no effect. What might I be dealing with?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
As per your complain swollen salivary gland under the jaw seems to be swollen submandibular salivary gland and it can be due to either chronic infection in the gland known as Sialadenitis or due to clogged duct of the gland. Many a times the infection in the submandibular salivary gland can occur secondary to obstruction in the gland [sialolithiasis].
Nothing to worry, consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and in case of submandibular gland disorders a clinical evaluation and an MRI of the gland can help in making a confirmatory diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
As of now for soreness you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen.
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
