Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Some 3 months ago, my tongue developed what appeared to be a swollen taste bud on the side near the teeth. There were other smaller swollen lumps on the tongue on both sides. I thought the largest One was due to biting my tongue. My dentist looked at it and said that was probably the cause and to give it time. It finally cleared up a couple of weeks later. The other swollen buds also went away. Now, the swollen taste buds on the sides are back. The tongue seems thicker. I know this time I haven't bit my tongue. What's up?
As per your complain it seems like Transient Lingual Pappilitis which causes inflammation and swelling of the tongue papillae and it can be due to local irritation caused by hot foods or chemicals, acid reflux, hormonal changes, stress etc.. Nothing to worry, you can do warm saline gargle, take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen, do cold compresses or suck ice pops, avoid spicy and hot foods and take multivitamin supplements..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
