Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Its been twice now that when I have been exposed to the sun for an extended period of time I have ended up with swollen tonsils that have white spots... I wouldnt think that there was a connection but both times its happened it was after a day in the sun, once at the beach another screening for gemstones. Is this common?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Swelling in the tonsils does not have any relation to the exposure to the sunlight. It could be due to inflammation of tonsils following infection in the pharynx (throat). You need not worry about it much. Kindly do the following to overcome it. 1. Salt water gargling with warm water twice daily. 2. Take any decongestant medication. 3. Use medicated lozenges to soothen the throat. 4. Use regularly Chlorhexidine mouth wash to maintain good oral hygiene. 5. Avoid intake of cold items like cool drinks and ice-creams. Gradually, your symptoms should subside and be back to normal. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
