What Causes Swollen Tonsils After Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

Hi, I just had all four of my wisdom teeth extracted yesterday. One wisdom tooth was far down touching the nerve, this one seems to be giving me the most issue. My question is....I now how have a swollen tonsil on that side which is extremely painful. Is this normal?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain swollen tonsil after wisdom tooth extraction seems to be most probably due to inflammation caused due to the extraction procedure as the area of the throat and tonsils is close to the extraction site..

It is commonly seen that any infection or inflammation originating from the wisdom tooth extraction site causes swollen tonsils and sore throat and as the infection subside the throat related problems also subside..

I would suggest you to consult your treating Dentist and get evaluated..
You can be advised a course of antibiotics like Augmentin and anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen..
Do warm saline gargles..
Avoid spicy and hard foods and drink plenty of warm water..

Hope this information helps..

Regards..
