What Causes Swollen Vaginal Lips?

So, uh... Female part question.... One of my lips is swollen and has a quarter size pocket full of something right next to it/under it... Sex with only 1 person in the last 7 years. No std possibility. This has happened one other time but only the quarter size pocket. No swelling of lip. This one was on other side and popped..... The one I have now has no exit hole and because the right lip is swollen I m concerned.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Swollen vaginal lips commonly occur due to infection (bacterial, yeast or viral), latex allergy, low levels of estrogens (sex without enough lubrication), vaginitis, cyst, etc. You are suggested to take care of your personal hygiene, wash your private parts with warm water each time you go to the washroom / toilet. You should pat it dry and apply hydrocortisone ointment in the area affected for relief.

Take a course of anti-fungals (Fluconazole) orally. However, you should get it clinically examined by a gynecologist to detect if it is a cyst that may need drainage or surgical removal. Get treated at the earliest. In the meantime take vitamin E, Evion - 400, once daily for 10 days for better lubrication and comfortable sex.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
