What Causes Swollen Wound Near The Base Of Spine Extending Towards Buttocks?

I have a wound about the size of a dime near the base of my spine, red and swollen around it. The past two days tenderness has extended across the buttocks around the hip and towards my groin. Do I need to visit the ER or is it ok to call my Dr tomorrow?
