What Causes Symptoms Of Seizure During Sleep When Diagnosed With Sleeping Disorder?
Sometimes in my sleep I get what feel like mini seizures. Ive never been diagnosed with a sleeping disorder though ive never consulted a doctor about this. It started when i was 11/12 and im 18 now. The feeling starts of as a small tingle in my whole body and gets stronger each second. It doesn t happen at any specific time like falling asleep or waking up, it happens while I m sleeping too. I become aware of what s happening but I cannot move, open my eyes, or talk. I make myself breath really fast so I don t stop breathing and I talk myself into moving positions. Most of the time. If I can make myself move (which is hard to do) they stop. Sometimes I fall right back into this feeling, sometimes I get out of bed so it doesn t come back. The feeling is scary and I find myself telling myself to move or I m going to die instinctively. What is happening while I sleep ?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The symptoms described by you is not a seizure or due to seizure. There are two phases of sleep - REM sleep and non REM sleep. During REM phase, the metabolism of the body is increased, there may be rapid body movements, sensations etc. Thus, the symptoms experienced by you are during REM sleep. If the symptoms are disturbing your sleep, you may undergo sleep study so that any problem during sleep can be monitored and treated. I suggest you to consult a pulmonologist for sleep study.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
